BENEFITS FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS TREATMENT
Lauren
“My surgeon recommended a new treatment called PlasmaJet — where they deliver a fine beam of plasma (a type of energy) directly at the endometriosis tissue. This is accurate enough to destroy the unwanted ‘extra’ cells on the surface of normal tissue, such as the ovaries, but does not penetrate deeply enough to cause harm to the healthy cells underneath. For me it meant they could remove more of the tissue that was causing problems and reduce the need for further surgery.” 14
Prof. Horace Roman, Centre of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynaecology, Clinique Tivoli-Ducos, Bordeaux, France
“The PlasmaJet has proven to be a tool to manage all stages of endometriosis, from the ablation of superficial lesions to the resection of deep-seated nodules. It can be used indifferently as an ablation or resection tool, to restore the anatomy while always preserving the adjacent structures and tissues.
Early results of a 3-year follow-up study on 55 women treated with the PlasmaJet for ovarian endometrioma report a very encouraging pregnancy rate of 67% in patients without hormonal treatment and seeking to conceive.” 9
BENEFITS FOR OVARIAN CANCER TREATMENT
Julie
“I was advised that surgery could leave me with a colostomy as there was a risk that some of my bowel needed to be removed. Being left with a stoma was a worry. I knew I could live with it, if necessary, but it wasn’t something I wanted. Mr. Butler (my surgeon) mentioned the possibility of being treated with the PlasmaJet – a groundbreaking piece of technology that uses plasma energy to cut through tissue, stop bleeding and destroy cancer cells safely. As it causes very little damage to surrounding healthy tissue, it reduces the likelihood of needing a stoma. Because of this wonderful technology, they managed to do the operation without me needing a colostomy. As far as I’m concerned, my quality of life is now 100%. It was a big operation, but my care was fantastic, and I was home after 12 days. My recovery rate has been so much quicker than I expected and I’m doing really well.” 20
Joan
“I was first diagnosed with cancer 15 years ago and underwent surgery back then to treat it. Unfortunately, my recovery was long and very painful. Six weeks ago, I had PlasmaJet surgery at the Royal United Hospital in Bath (UK) and the difference in my recovery has been incredible. I was mobile within three days, walking within five, and now six weeks on I’m able to comfortably potter around the house and go on short country walks. There has been less pain this time around too and that’s made my emotional recovery much easier. This new equipment meant I didn’t have to have a stoma either, which would have been life-changing. It was amazing to be able to benefit from this surgery and I’m so pleased others like me will be able to benefit from this now too.21
Mr John Butler, Consultant Gynaecological Surgeon, The Royal Marsden Hospital, UK
“During PlasmaJet surgery, cancer cells are removed or vaporised with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. … There’s no other surgical device that is as safe and effective in removing or destroying tumours on structures such as the bowel …” 20
Mr. Jonathan Frost, Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, UK
“This is an invaluable tool in advanced ovarian cancer, where the tumor is typically found in multiple nodules on the surface of organs and tissues such as the bowel. Now we have the PlasmaJet Ultra+, we’re able to vaporize a tumor from tissues more precisely, causing minimal damage to areas such as the bowel so patients have better outcomes and a shorter recovery period.” 21
